To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Cortez, Nike commissioned 40 artists from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines to put their own spin on the classic shoe that changed the world. My team and I was selected as one of Malaysia’s representatives and contribute to the customised Cortez collection.
Solution
In conceptualising this one-of-a-kind Cortez, my team focused on the beautiful symbiotic relationship between the feet and the Cortez; giving birth to the Nike Cortez Kinematique. Bolts, wingnuts and screws were used to represent the superlative bond that is organic, synthetic and mechanical.
Nike Cortez Kinematique is a crisp statement acknowledging the exquisite yet classical motion of articulation points and was MAYHEM’s tribute to the Geometry of Motion (kinematics) with a relative dynamic twist.
Our customised Cortez Kinematique was exhibited during the 40th anniversary party in Kuala Lumpur as well as in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines.
