The Victorian Department of Education and Training worked with Millipede to create a mobile game that helps kids broaden their mathematical experience in a fun and wholesome manner.
The game is to cater for school children ranging from year 1 to year 12.
Solution
Infinite Voyage uses gamification principals to increase confidence in and engagement with mathematics. The premise of the game takes place on a spaceship that is searching for suitable places where humankind can relocate. The player is presented with a variety of challenges to complete to help keep the spaceship in optimal operating condition.
Among the game’s features are:
15 different sub-games covering different mathematical concepts across 3 spaceship dome environments.
Creating your own customised characters and family members.
Linking with friends and family to see their customised characters hanging around the spaceship.
Unlocking rewards based on challenges completed.
Multiple levels of difficulty to cater for different age groups.
I was part of the team to brainstorm and conceptualise the variety of games, taking into consideration the different math topics and levels of complexity that needed to be covered. I also led the design team in setting the art direction, whilst working hands-on in the creation of assets and environments for the spaceship’s Main Dome, the Player’s Room, the Cafe and the Radio Tower.
