Urbanscapes is an annual youth-centric music and arts festival held over 2 days in Kuala Lumpur. The organisers invited my team to come up with a bright idea for an art installation as one of the attractions at the festival grounds.
Solution
We wanted the art installation to be something that the crowd masses could interact with rather than just a pretty structure in the middle of the grounds. And we also wanted each interaction to have a deeper meaning and be part of a contribution to a much greater cause. From that, Lucky was born – The giant balloon dog made to inspire youths that a single positive gesture can really brighten up the world.
A small donation is made to receive a choice of 1 coloured light bulb (red, blue or yellow to represent the diversity of Malaysia). The festival-goer can then take the light bulb and screw it into the many sockets available along Lucky’s huge body. The more light bulbs that were placed, the brighter Lucky shone over the course of the festival. We collaborated with a non-profit organisation called Epic Homes which commits to building sustainable housing for those who need it in disaster stricken areas around the country and all proceeds that Lucky managed to collect in the 2 days, went directly to this amazing initiative.
Now that’s a BRIGHT IDEA!
